My present body of work revolves around the imagery taken from life, or more precisely, life cycles. The cycles of birth and death, suffering and enlightenment and finally resurrection are common to all- yet transcend the ordinary into the realm of the sacred.

Mystery...something veiled which is yet to be revealed... requires a relinquishment of control. We are all at the mercy of mystery. Mercy defined is the alleviation of the misery caused by our own bad choices by a loving and benevolent God. We can share not only in the reception of mercy but also in bestowing it on others.

How do I respond to the cycles of mystery that come, most of the time uninvited, to my life? Do I tear back the curtain by an illegitimate need to know what lies ahead, to fashion my own destiny ? Or do I recognize my own weakness on the template of God's mercy... this is my struggle not only in life but also in my art work.

Even my choice of media challenges my need for control. Starting with poured paint on masonite I watch as the coalescent paint marbleizes into an articulate, untouched design. I then overlay the design with more realistic pencil views drawn onto translucent papers depicting moments of joy or sorrow while paying close attention to the underlying design. What lies beneath and went before makes its way into both my process and final outcome.
